Nick Sallmann

Nick Sallmann is Manager of Commercial Origination at Hydro Tasmania, where he leads the origination and structuring of firm power for some of Australia's largest electricity users. An economist by training, his work sits where market design meets the deal: how energy-neutral firming - hydro storage shifting variable renewable energy through time - is priced, contracted and made bankable in an energy-only market. He is the primary author of Hydro Tasmania's Contracting Principles, the doctrine governing the utility's wholesale pricing and risk; designed the competitive processes procuring offtake from early-stage renewable developments; and led the commercial and regulatory case that converted the Basslink interconnector into a regulated transmission service, having been instrumental in the genesis of Marinus Link. He began his career as an industry economist, appearing regularly on national television and radio.
